Who still goes to all the trouble of getting dressed up in a suit and patent leather shoes just to go shopping? Monsieur Cadet whistles to himself as he admires the blue sky above the rooftops of Paris. He doesn’t seem to notice that people are turning their heads to watch him as he goes by.
A house synonymous with Parisian style
Monsieur Cadet greets the greengrocer on the one side, his neighbour the butcher, a fishmonger across the way, and the barber he visits regularly. 29 bedrooms – including 2 suites in the loft – overlook this cobbled street in Paris, which is just as lively at night as it is during the day. Monsieur Cadet lives in the Grands Boulevards district, where all the Parisians come to meet up. Honoré de Balzac once said that they are “what the Grand Canal is to Venice”.
Woven wickerwork chairs and bistro tables are laid out on the terrace. In the summer, the hotel sets up its stand selling homemade ice cream. As night falls, the cocktail bar opens and welcomes guests in a plush, cosy atmosphere. The Spa and the Steam Bath remain open from morning to evening.
The Bedrooms
A delightful Art Deco experience, a flashback to the Roaring Twenties, the ultimate romantic era when everyone lived life as an adventure. As do all members of Monsieur Cadet’s family. And in his house, everyone has their own floor, decorated to suit their tastes.
But all the family agree on one thing: the attention to detail and to the quality of the materials used. They love interior schemes that have something to say, which tell a story.
THE PIANO BAR
Welcome to a speakeasy in 1922. Padded royal blue seats are placed invitingly under a mirror produced from seedy glass. On the walls, the black-and-white designs recall the winds of freedom which swept through artistic creativity. For its part, the bookshelf proposes a selection of old books covering the history of Paris - or rather histories of Paris, a city which has known so much turmoil.
In the half-light of this chiaroscuro atmosphere, you can no longer see people’s faces clearly, just the bright colours of their deluxe cocktails.
Le Tigre Yoga Club, something of a reference in Paris when it comes to wellness, is also part of Monsieur Cadet’s family. It’s no surprise to find them in this building on the Grands Boulevards. In addition to the roomy steam bath, Le Tigre also proposes a programme of tailored massages and yoga classes.
Le Tigre proposes individual yoga classes, exclusively in the Bauhaus suite.
Monsieur Cadet, Adresses Hotels
More than just a collection of boutique hotels, ADRESSES HOTELS are heartbeats born out of a desire to create iconic places that reflect their neighborhoods. They could be those addresses that are only shared by word of mouth, and that should not be talked about too much for fear of losing their essence.
These places combine the conviviality of a family home with the comfort of a grand hotel. They are scattered throughout the busiest neighborhoods of Paris and beyond, and have taken root without altering or disrupting their surroundings, blending in with discretion and humility.
Each hotel tells a story, with a unique décor and atmosphere that is an extension of the surrounding streets. The men and women who work tirelessly every day to ensure everyone’s comfort are the soulful supplement that makes ADRESSES HOTELS so special.
